“I thought I had the flu,” said local resident and Temecula Valley Hospital (TVH) patient David Rich. “After about a week of my temperature spiking to 104 degrees, I knew something was wrong since I wasn’t getting better.”

Roxana Rich, David’s wife, initially thought he had heatstroke. “His temperature alarmed me,” she said. She took him to TVH’s ER, where he was diagnosed with COVID-19. He then came home to recover and quarantine.

David’s symptoms continued to worsen; Roxana knew she needed to bring him back to the hospital for further treatment. He spent the next few days in the COVID-19 unit and received the antiviral medication treatment of Remdesivir. During his stay, David texted with Roxana and was able to call and FaceTime her every day. She was able to frequently connect with his healthcare team for status updates, even calling his RN at 3 am to check on him when she couldn’t sleep.

After stabilizing and leaving the hospital, David was welcomed home with a sign that Roxana made him with the words: “COVID FINISH LINE! YOU DID IT! YOU WON! MY COVID HERO!”

“From the start to the finish, the TVH team was professional, friendly and provided superb care,” said David. “I give TVH an A+!” Roxana said she has a newfound respect for healthcare professionals. “I knew that David was getting the care he needed. I have great respect for doctors, nurses and all healthcare professionals.”

David and Roxana recently visited TVH to thank the staff who cared for him. David is feeling more like himself every day!
