Diagnosing and Treating Heart Conditions

Cardiac catheterization offers precise evaluation of your heart’s blood vessels and pressures, determining when you need treatment and when you do not. We use cardiac catheterization to accurately diagnose the cause of heart-related symptoms, including chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath or any combination of these symptoms.

Diagnostic Heart Catheterization

A diagnostic heart catheterization is a minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment option that involves passing a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) through the vessels supplying blood to the heart. Your doctor uses this procedure to tell how well your heart is functioning and to diagnose any possible cardiac disease.

Stenting

In some cases, doctors implant a flexible mesh tube (stent) at areas of narrowing to help keep strictures open.

Transradial Catheterization

Transradial catheterization is an endovascular procedure or catheterization procedure performed to diagnose and treat arterial disease (coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, etc.).

Pacemaker

These devices are used to treat slow heart rhythms (bradycardia). Permanent pacemakers are placed inside the chest through a major vein and are intended to remain in the body over a long period. The pacemaker is implanted during a procedure in which the patient is under local anesthesia. A vein in the upper chest is opened so the pacemaker wires can be advanced into the heart. The wire must touch the heart to carry electrical signals back and forth between the heart and the pacemaker. The wire is then attached to the pacemaker, which is put in a pouch under the skin.

Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator

Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, a heartbeat that is uneven or that is too slow or too fast. Defibrillators can also restore the heart’s beating if the heart suddenly stops. Other defibrillators can prevent sudden death among people who have a high risk of a life-threatening arrhythmia. These include implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), which are surgically placed inside your body.

Angiogram

An angiogram is an X-ray imaging test used to diagnose a variety of vascular conditions, including aneurysms. Sometimes physicians use angiography to treat aortic problems such as dissolving a clot, performing angioplasty and performing a stenting procedure to clear a blockage. An angiogram can also help your physician plan operations to repair the arteries for more extensive problems.
